Weekend Blog 06.07.24 – Thinking Like Engineers

Hello everyone.

It’s been another busy week including secondary transition days for our current Year 6 pupils and a transition afternoon for the rest of the school to meet their next year’s teacher.

Parents – you will get to meet your child’s teacher in the welcome meetings planned for early September.

THINKING LIKE ENGINEERS

This week saw every child involved in our whole school DT Week. This included designing and constructing bridges to hold a certain weight, making the tallest free-standing structure, designing and making a healthy soup, creating a steady hand buzzer, making a working crane and making a sweet dispenser that delivers a few sweets at a time.

Each activity encouraged the children to problem-solve, collaborate, reflect, adapt, refine and improve using technical skills.

THRILLING THURSDAY ASSEMBLY

Thank you to the many parents and grandparents who attended our Thrilling Thursday Assembly.  With all those hands in the air, it was like our very own Shorehambury Festival. What fun!

GOLD AWARDS

Congratulations to Alfie, Juliette Cleo, Rosie and Otto on receiving Gold Awards. A special mention to Juliette and Rosie who have achieved ten mentions in the Log Book this year.

GOLDEN TICKETERS

Golden Ticketers this week are: River and Maeva (Minnows), Errol and Tash (Seashells), Ivy and Izzy (Starfish), Daisy and Joseph (Dolphins), Iris and Etienne (Lighthouse), Katie and Reuben (Coral), Isla and Eva (Ocean). Well done all of you.

A special mention to our wonderful volunteers who also received Golden Tickets this week. We are so pleased to have parents, grandparents and community volunteers come in and offer their time in school.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS

Starfish Class and Minnows Class both achieved the best attendance this week with 100%.

CRAIG AND HIS GUITARISTS

Craig and his 26 guitarists gave a short concert to the whole school and parents. It was lovely to see the concentration on their faces as their fingers moved up and down the fretboard. A special mention to Kalindi (Year 5) who sang beautifully on one of the songs.

IT’S SAMBA TIME

Thank you to Mrs Bennett and the Year 6 children who performed a couple of Samba songs to parents and the rest of the school yesterday afternoon. A special mention to Logan and Bonnie who took on the role of band leaders.

PIZZA OVEN HELP

A plea from James Gleeson (Betty’s dad)…..

Are there any professional builders or bricklayers able to advise a couple of enthusiastic, but unskilled, parents to build a pizza oven for the school? Please email James on: [email protected]

DRESS DOWN DAY

The PTFA have arranged a Dress Down Day to take place next Thursday in exchange for £1. • Monday will see the return of the Giant Inflatable as the children get to enjoy the whole school treat
  • Reception and Year 6 are visiting the beach
  • Year 6 will be performing their summer production ‘A Ring of Roses’ on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. Catch it before it catches you!
