Hello everyone.
The Winter edition of ‘Beach News’ was posted through your letter box this week. Check out the lovely photographs of our children and the front cover star Harley. Thank you to the Beach News team for putting the magazine together and supporting the school.
REMEMBRANCE
On Tuesday, the school observed a minute’s silence to remember those who have lost their lives in the world wars and other conflicts. The children were incredibly respectful.
In addition, last weekend Eryn and Felicity took part in the remembrance parade in Southwick. Fliss was chosen to carry the flag for her Rainbows unit (2nd Shoreham) and she fully marched as she proudly carried it! Eryn and Cleo Boudour joined their guides unit (1st Shoreham).
CAPTURED
More fabulous learning moments captured by Mrs Noble:
FUNKY FRIDAY ASSEMBLY
Thank you to the many parents and grandparents who joined us for our Funky Friday Assembly yesterday. It was certainly a fun one. Thank you to Axel for introducing the assembly and to all the staff for joining in on ‘Do You Love Me’ with some super percussion work. A special mention to Mr Collinson who played the Djembe drum and Mr Strudwick who played the Triangle!
OSCAR
Congratulations to Joshua (Minnows Class) who was presented with an Oscar yesterday.
Joshua demonstrated a great learning attitude when he discovered a Leopard Slug (also known as a Limax Maximus) in the Minnows wildlife area. He then led a group of Minnows ‘explorers’ in search of a Tiger Slug and a Zebra Slug. Equipped with torches, they had a fabulous time searching for giant Slugs.
All of this was witnessed by myself and a West Sussex Senior Adviser. It really was quite wonderful and highlighted the learning we are encouraging at Shoreham Beach Primary. Joshua chose to have his photo in the place where he discovered the Leopard Slug.
It was a double whammy for Joshua this week, as he was also the recipient of a Golden Ticket. Well done Joshua.
GOLDEN TICKETERS
Golden Ticketers this week are:
Joshua and Phoebe (Minnows), Ollie and Imogen (Seashells), Benji and Charley (Starfish), Nimitan and Layla (Dolphins), Delilah and Heidi (Lighthouse), Lola and Harvey (Coral), Emily and Danny (Ocean).
Well done to you all.
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
The class with the best attendance this week is Minnows Class with 96.8%. They chose to have Clyde for the week.
THINKING LIKE ENGINEERS
Children have been engaged in Design Technology activities this week as part of our Whole School DT Week. They each had to solve a problem that involved designing and making a prototype and then testing it out.
LET’S DANCE
After being ill at the end of last week with a high fever, Lola (Year 5) went to Destination Dance to complete in a solo and a duet with Poppy. She’s only performed in group dances before – so this was the first time performing a solo or duet on stage.
She achieved gold for her solo and gold 1st place for her duet!
GYMNASTIC SUCCESS
Hannah and Millie (Year 5) entered a gymnastics competition recently, where they competed with other children their age on the bars, vault and floor routine.
They did amazingly! Millie got 1st place overall and Hannah got top score for her floor routine. Both girls also got judge awards too.
HOCKEY
Nala recently experienced her first hockey tournament. She played for Brighton and Hove Hockey U10s Girls team. Well done Nala.
CHRISTMAS IS COMING…….
Our Winter Fair is due to take place on Friday 29th November. Just picture the scene……..outside stalls, twinkly lights, cold air and the smell of Christmas.
We will have food, mulled wine, hot chocolate, hot dogs, Christmas singing, a teddy tumble game, tombola, a reindeer food activity and Santa’s Grotto.
Thank you to Nick from Oakley Property who has sponsored the school again and donated £250 towards fair costs
The PTFA has also organised a Silent Auction which will open on Friday 22nd and stay open for a week after the Fair. A list of donated prizes and details of how to bid will be shared soon.
If any parents with craft businesses would like a stall at the Winter Fair for £15 – please contact the school office.
HARLEY’S CORNER
“Hello everyone. What a mess! I’m not kidding. Every day this week the classrooms have had children designing and building things. I’ve seen wood, balloons, straws, glue guns, bottles, wheels, lolly sticks, string, polystyrene, vegetables and bits of paper everywhere. Thank you, Alfie, Flossy and Didi for sharing your lovely writing with me. Did you see me on the front cover of Beach News Grandma?”
GOAL!!
Well done to those boys who represented the school this week in the football match against Glebe Primary. Although we lost 5-2, I received a match review from Chris McLelland (parent) who said how impressed he was with our determination and teamwork. He said it was a privilege to watch the game.
Thank you to Mr Strudwick and Dixie for ensuring the team enjoyed taking part and representing the school.
