Weekend Blog 29.03.25 – Spring Has Sprung

Hello everyone.

Firstly, may I congratulate the children (and staff) on reaching the 20,000 merit point target. This means that a whole school treat is heading their way in the shape of a magic show. This will happen next Thursday afternoon. I hope you enjoy it.

FACTOID OF THE WEEK

The average person blinks 14 to 17 times per minute. Most fish don’t blink at all.

FUNKY FRIDAY

Thank you to the many parents and grandparents who attended our Funky Friday Assembly. Another fun one to start your weekend. i hope you enjoyed it.

OSCARS

Congratulations to Reuben on being presented with an Oscar.

Reuben is an incredibly curious individual, always eager to learn. His natural curiosity drives him to ask insightful questions and engage deeply with the world around him. Beyond this, he takes part in many activities outside of school, and was immensely proud to show the class his ‘Showcase’ DVD where he sang, danced and performed with a wide range of other age groups – both older and younger.

From Beavers:

Reuben is always helpful and kind, keen to learn and show other newer Beavers some of the skills/things he has learnt previously.

From his drama class

Reuben always has bundles of energy and is quick to show character from the ‘get go’.  He is extravagant, funny and a joy to teach and watch.

HARLEY’S CORNER

“Hello everyone. What do you think of my Spring haircut. I smell gorgeous as well! The photographs below are of Frances teaching me how to give my paw to her. See you tomorrow Grandma.”

RUGBY

Congratulations to Lyla (Year 5) who represented Hove Rugby Club in a recent tournament and thoroughly enjoyed herself.

GOING BACK IN TIME

Dolphin Class enjoyed a visit to the Brighton Museum this week. They took part in an interactive workshop where they hunted for clues to solve a cryptex lock, worked out the role of a Stone Age character, and traded materials between groups to survive the winter! They also had some time exploring other exhibitions in the museum. The children really enjoyed themselves and their enthusiasm and behaviour were a credit to the school!

DRUMMING UP A STORM

For the past ten weeks, Dolphin Class have been undertaking Djembe drum workshops run by West Sussex Music. The children worked hard over this time to learn beats and songs, and performed for their parents on Thursday. They sang and drummed to ‘Jamawaile’, a welcome song from the Wolof tribe in Gambia; ‘Oleo’, a call-and-response women working song from Ghana; performed a drum solo as part of a drum circle; and ended with a rendition of ‘Senwa dedende’, a folk song from Ghana. A big thank you to Rania, for supporting the children every step of the way.
