Weekend Blog 02.05.25 -Kindness and Teamwork

Happy Saturday and Long Weekend everyone,

We continue to offer a range of different learning experiences to our children and last week’s photographs reinforced just how many varied activities our children are involved in over a week. As we head into a long weekend, may I take this opportunity to thank the staff for continuing to keep learning exciting for the children and also working so well together. What a team! And talking of teamwork………

YEAR 4 ACTIVITY DAY and SLEEPOVER

Last week, Lighthouse Class participated in an Activity Day at Adur Activity Centre, followed by a sleepover in the school. They loved it. A huge thank you to Mrs Bennett, Mrs Hampton and Dixie for organising it and offering to spend the night in school. A special mention to Mr Strugnell for ensuring the children were fed and watered.

FUNKY FRIDAY ASSEMBLY

Thank you to the many parents and grandparents who attended yesterday’s Funky Friday Assembly. Thank you to Ashleigh (Layla’s mum) for mentioning that it was National Principal/Headteacher Day. Very kind.

CAPTURED

Here are some learning moments from in and around school this week, captured by Miss Watson:

OSCAR

Congratulations to Josie (Reception) on being presented with an Oscar this week.

From Mrs Thomas:

Josie is having the most amazing year . She is a determined, hard working, committed individual who shines in every lesson. She is a passionate, curious learner and approaches everything with enthusiasm. She immerses herself in all learning journeys, constantly asking questions and wanting to know more! This enthusiasm continues at home. Josie often brings in drawings and little books that she has made to share with the class. Through determination and hard work she has become an excellent reader and writer. Not only is she a brilliant learner she is also the most helpful Minnow. Everyday Josie asks ‘ Mrs Thomas are there any jobs to do in the class?’ Or ‘ can I help you with anything?’ I don’t know what I would do without her! She is the most wonderful role model to our class and I have been very lucky to be her first teacher. Josie, you are simply amazing.

GOLD AWARD

Congratulations to Sky (Reception), Frankie (Year 1), Poppy (Year 3), Alice, Millie, Indie, Layla, Naomi and Ivy (Year 4). All of them received Gold Awards this week for five mentions in the Log Book.

HARLEY TALK

A message from Harley Bear:

Lua made this little heart shaped bowl for Harley bear but sadly it broke as she was preparing to put it in her rucksack.

BIKE BUS

An email from Paula Waugh (consultant):

Good morning, I felt compelled to email you because, while out on a walk this morning, I saw your wonderful children, parents, and staff on the bike bus. What a joyous sight, they cheered up my morning.  It’s a wonderful initiative, great for safety, exercise and spreading happiness. Please pass on my thanks and praise to all concerned. Best wishes and enjoy the bank holiday weekend. Paula

PYROBAN IN YEAR 5

Coral Class enjoyed a visit from Pyroban as part of their Science/STEM work.

NURSERY TIME

We already have parents booking a place for their child in our Nursery for September. Don’t miss out. Contact the school office and come and have a look.

NATIONAL SWIMMING FINALS

A report by Lily and Ella:

At the weekend, Lily, Ella, Ollie and Theo from Year 6, went to a South East swimming competition in Guildford. We did very well and came fourth in the freestyle relay and third in the medley relay. This means we have qualified for the national finals in Sheffield in June. It was a great experience and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is a huge achievement, against small schools from across the south east, many of which have their own pools and train weekly. This will mean swimming again, against schools from across England who have qualified in the top 3 of their divisions. We are all incredibly proud of them.

GEORGE

It’s been quite the weekend for George. Last week, George played in the last football match of the season, George’s team (Shoreham FC) won 4 – 0 against Withdean. George scored two goals, made an assist on the third goal and won Man of the Match! Liverpool FC could certainly benefit from George playing for them!
