Weekend Blog 15.11.25 – Beautiful Light and Fresh Air

Happy Saturday everyone.

As I type this, I am listening to ‘Waterfront’ by Simple Minds and looking at this fabulous photograph of Leandro and Bodhi taken by Mrs Noble. How lucky are we to be surrounded with such beautiful light and fresh air.

It has been another busy week at Shoreham Beach Primary School. As well as an author visit, Remembrance, a phonics workshop, football at Sir Robert Woodard Academy, Dress Down Day for hamper donations and a trip to Shoreham lifeboat station – it was also our whole school Autumn DT week (soup, boats, bunting, dinosaurs and moving hands were just some of the activities that the children were involved in).

REMEMBRANCE

On Tuesday, the children respectfully observed a period of silence to remember those who have lost their lives in conflict. I was particularly pleased to have received the following email:

Good morning,

I wanted to let you know that a number of Shoreham Beach pupils who are members of the Cubs and Beavers took part in the Remembrance Day parade last weekend. They represented themselves, their groups and the school exceptionally well, showing great respect and maturity throughout the event.

It was wonderful to see them taking part in such an important occasion for the community and demonstrating such respect

FUNKY FRIDAY ASSEMBLY

Thank you to the many parents and grandparents who attended yesterday’s Funky Friday Assembly. Here is poem that I read out – written by Alana (Year 5)

Maths

Maths is like you……

We didn’t know each other at first,

but as I learnt more about you

I saw your meaning (your personality)

and look where we are now..….Best Friends Forever

CAPTURED

Here are some learning moments from in and around school this week, captured by Mrs Noble:

OSCAR

Congratulations to Lua (Year 4) on receiving an Oscar this week.

Lua was nominated by her class teacher for being such a different pupil to the quiet, shy one who arrived in the class In September. She is now resilient, smiling every day, challenging herself to try her best in every lesson and working collaboratively with her peers. Lua is kind and supportive towards her buddies in lessons. Her mum reports that Lua is practising her times tables regularly at home as well as using Adobe to complete home learning and practising the guitar. Lua….what a star you are!

GOLD AWARD

No Gold Awards this week, but lots of children are on four mentions in the Log Book. Don’t forget that Mrs Noble has promised to sing in next week’s assembly if Gold Awards are presented.

GOLDEN TICKETS

Congratulations to our Golden Ticketers: Tommy (Reception), Oakley and Bluebell (Year 1), Imogen (Year 2), Miles and Tash (Year 3), Everley and Alice (Year 4), Remy and Leandro (Year 5), Harvey and Millie (Year 6)

ATTENDANCE MATTERS

The class with the best attendance this week is Seashells Class with 100%. The Attendance Randomiser selected Derek for them to have for a week.

AUTHOR VISIT

Children’s author Helen Peters visited our school on Monday to introduce her new book, A Reindeer Called Joy. She spoke to the children about how growing up on a farm inspired her love of writing animal stories, shared lots of fascinating animal facts and took them through the process of creating a book from start to finish. The children were given the opportunity to ask their own questions (and to tell her about the books they’ve written!). Afterwards, those who had ordered a copy were able to have it signed in the school bus.

Thank you, Helen, for visiting us!

PHONICS WITH MRS THOMAS

Thank you to the parents who joined Mrs Thomas for her Phonics Workshop this week. It was greatly appreciated. Moving forward, we are looking at providing videos of workshops for those parents who work and are unable to attend.
