Weekend Blog 18.04.26 – Everyone Is A Little Bats Really!

Happy Saturday everyone,

Yesterday was International Bat Appreciation Day and in assembly we shared two fascinating facts:

  1. Bats are not blind – they can see perfectly well at Twilight, but need an echolocator to help them locate insects and prey in total darkness
  2. Bats purr – or at least make a sound like purring when you gently stroke them. I had the pleasure of a visit from the West Sussex Bat Hospital to a school I was working in many years ago.

FUNKY FRIDAY ASSEMBLY

Thank you to the many parents and grandparents who attended yesterday’s Funky Friday Assembly. Several parents have asked what the song is that the children sang at the beginning of the assembly. It is a song called ‘Zorbing’ by Stornaway. It’s a song that will make you smile. Here is the link:

CAPTURED

Here are some learning moments from in and around school this week, captured by Miss Watson (and Miss Dixon):

OSCAR

Congratulations to Maeva (Year 2) on receiving an Oscar. Maeva is a brilliant learner! She tries so hard and has made great progress in all subjects. Maeva is very helpful around the class – offering to carry out little jobs for the adults and doing them really well. Mr Collinson particularly loves chatting with Maeva, as she always has something interesting to share. Maeva has a great sense of humour and is always polite. She is an absolute superstar. Well done Maeva.

GOLD AWARD

Congratulations to Tommy and Charly on being presented with Gold Awards.

GOLDEN TICKETS

Congratulations to our Golden Ticketers: Chester and Indi (Reception), Bluebell and Jude (Year 1), Maisie and Imogen (Year 2), Edden and Winnie (Year 3), George and Ivy (Year 4), Juliette and Amelie  (Year 5), Nala and Maggie (Year 6).

ATTENDANCE MATTERS

The class with the best attendance this week is Coral Class with 98.9%. The Attendance Randomiser selected Zeus (or Rodney, as he was called yesterday) for them to have for the week.

HARLEY TALK

A message from Harley Bear:

NURSERY TIME

We already have parents booking a place for their child in our Nursery for September. Don’t miss out. We also have certain sessions on certain days available during the summer term. CONTACT THE SCHOOL OFFICE and come and visit our very happy Nursery.

AUTHOR VISIT

Key Stage 2 were treated to an assembly this week from children’s author David Fuller, who shared his writing experiences and tips, read extracts from his Alife Jones and Galactic Tower series and answered questions from the children.

If your child is interested in reading the books and would like a signed copy, the pre-order form (Pinged out at the start of the week) will remain active until the end of next Thursday, and the books will be delivered to school on Friday.

POND LIFE

The school pond is looking great with plenty of wildlife activity going on. Staff have already started taking the children out in small groups to have a look.

STAFFING

A warm welcome goes to Camilla Chandler (Bursar), Nick Herriott (Teaching Assistant) and Helen Chadborn (Year 5 teacher). Do say hello to them when you are next in or around the school.

Have a good weekend.
