Early child development sets the foundation for lifelong learning, behaviour and health.
As a school, we need to provide children with a rich variety of play activities and other experiences in a stimulating and challenging environment. We need to develop their physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs in a learning environment that motivates, challenges and stimulates them. There should be daily opportunities for the children to investigate, satisfy their curiosity, explore the environment inside and outside the classroom, extend their sense of wonder, experience success and develop a positive attitude towards learning.
An Early Years outside area could incorporate learning areas like this:
This is why we are working with the PTFA on improving our outside Early Years area which we hope will also include a bus for a breakfast and after school club. A group of us started clearing it over the half term break, but we are now looking for members of the community to support us. If you are a surface expert (wet pour, concrete, bark chippings and astro turf), a fencing company, a carpenter, a brick layer, someone with outdoor grounds expertise, a tree surgeon, someone who is willing to paint walls and fences or someone with links to a bus company……please climb on board and contact Sally Edwards by emailing [email protected]
Our outside area has the potential to be something very special. Let’s go for it.
Oh and don’t worry, we didn’t leave Mrs Dixon in the skip.
