Hello everyone.
After a busy (and generally disappointing) week for Premiership Teams in Europe – here is a little weekend teaser for you:
Can you name the five Premiership Teams that have the letter V in their name?
ADVISER VISIT
On Tuesday, we were visited by a West Sussex Senior Adviser. She spent nearly four hours looking at documentation, talking to staff and Governors, speaking with pupils about their work and monitoring the quality of teaching and learning across the school. Her final report is very positive indeed. Well done to everyone.
CAPTURED
More fabulous learning moments captured by Mrs Noble:
FUNKY FRIDAY ASSEMBLY
Thank you to the many parents and grandparents who joined us for our Funky Friday Assembly yesterday. It was certainly a fun one! Mr Collinson was a good sport and you will be pleased to hear that he has agreed to join the band (with Mr Strudwick). Anything can happen in a Funky Friday Assembly!
OSCAR
Aria received her Oscar for her kindness and positive attitude as part of Southwick Rangers U11 Girls Football Team. In matches, she is always competitive and always tries her best. She will play in any position (generally goalkeeper) and her attitude always inspires her team mates – who voted her to be their captain. Aria was nominated for an Oscar by Dom Dellow who said “Aria deserves an Oscar for just being herself. She is great and inspires and leads the people around her. Well done Aria.”
Edden was presented with an Oscar for her recent act of kindness. In June 2022 she learnt of a cousin cutting off her long hair to donate to a charity that makes wigs for children who have lost their hair through cancer treatment and other conditions. Edden decided that she too would donate her hair once it was long enough to do so. Twenty nine months later, she decided it was time! She asked her mum to find the nearest hairdresser and had 12 inches of hair cut off. She has donated it to the Little Princess Trust. This was all her own initiative. Such a very brave and generous act which she hopes will bring joy to a young person at a very difficult time. What a beautiful act of kindness. Well done Edden.
GOLDEN TICKETERS
Golden Ticketers this week are:
Bluebell and Jude (Minnows), Ruben and Dominion (Seashells), Ava and Lily (Starfish), Lawrie and Ella (Dolphins), Bodhi and Mira (Lighthouse), Juke and Lily (Coral), Archie and Hugo (Ocean).
Well done to you all.
ARTIFICIAL GRASS AREA
Thank you to Chichester Landscapes Limited https://www.chichester-landscapes.co.uk who spent this week working on our artificial grass area to ensure it is flat and safe for the children to play on. These remedial works were carried out by Lennie and Tom – both of whom commented on how polite, well-mannered and well behaved our children were.
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
The class with the best attendance this week is Seashells Class with 98.8%. They chose to have Barbados for the week.
HARLEY’S CORNER
“Hello everyone. It’s been a very busy week. So many people visiting the school. I even got to meet some potential Minnows for September 2025. They were lovely. Talking of Minnows…..this is me with Kayla and Dixie. Great independent writing Kayla! I hope your cough is better Grandma. I am having my curls trimmed tomorrow, so hopefully that will cheer you up.”
TEA TOWEL MESSAGE FROM KELLI
Thank you to Mr Strugnall & all the staff for their support and help with the Tea Towel project. It was certainly invaluable to the success of the school tea towels.
The children produced some beautiful self-portraits and each class’s pieces were loved by parents!
I am pleased to say that thanks to this success we’ll be bringing them back for this academic year – starting in the new year to ensure we have enough time to produce each piece in time.
I also wanted to share with you how grateful I was for the help of Jo (Rosa’s Mum in Y4) who spent most of the summer holidays scanning all of the children’s individual self-portraits and hand written names into her computer at home, creating & perfecting each class’s tea towel before sending all 7 designs to Adam & the team at Evolution Branding on Ferry Road for printing. Both Jo & Adam worked tirelessly during the summer holidays to bring the tea towel project to life & ensuring we could do our part to bring extra funding for the school/PTFA. In total we raised over £750 for the school 🙂
CANVAS PHOTOGRAPHS
As you know, every so often we change the canvas photographs around the school. Here are the latest additions:
D-I-S-C-O
The PTFA Disco went really well. The children had a great time.
A big thank you to Charlotte Pearch and Carly Warren for organising it all and donating the proceeds to the PTFA – who were very grateful for the support.
AURELIA AND MARY ANNING
Aurelia (Year 1) was so inspired by her recent class learning journey, that she begged her parents to take her to Lyme Regis at half term to see where Mary Anning grew up and to find fossils. Aurelia LOVED the trip, and was so excited to see Mary Anning’s statue, and her old house (which has now been turned into a museum dedicated to her work).
On the way there she told the family over and over about Mary Anning, her life and her discoveries. She spoke so passionately about it that by the time they got there everyone was fully bought into the adventure. Aurelia, Theo and Vesper found lots of fossils and had a wonderful day exploring!
According to mum “Aurelia is one very inspired little girl.”
CHESS CLUB
Chess Club continues to be popular. Here are a few photographs from this week:
UKE AN DO IT
Learning an instrument is so valuable. A skill for life.
Year 4 would like to share three Ukulele pieces they have been learning in class. Thank you to Mrs Barnes for teaching them.
YEAR 2 THEATRE COMPANY VISIT
Starfish Class had a lovely morning being evacuated back in time to WW2 as part of their ‘Evacuation’ learning journey. They learnt loads about London and the Blitz, Anderson Shelters, rationing and being evacuated to the countryside. Thank you to ‘Stage to School Theatre in Education’ for engaging the children in the drama experience. The sad faces in the photographs are because they are being evacuated.
OPEN MORNINGS
Thank you to the many prospective parents who visited on Wednesday and Thursday this week for our open mornings. A special mention and thank you to the Year 6 pupils for leading the tours. Thank you also to Carole, Nathalie, Kelli and Gemma who gave up their time to talk to the parents and serve refreshments.
If you were unable to visit us for our open mornings – contact the school office and book in a time that suits you.
STAFFING UPDATE
Miss D’Ademo will be leaving us at Christmas. Her final day will be Friday 20th December. She has been a teacher with us since 2019 and in that time has taught a range of different year groups. We are currently in the process of finding a replacement and will keep you informed accordingly. I am sure you will join me in wishing her all the very best for the future
Dixie’s last day with us will be Friday 29th November. She has been at the school for 16 years – initially as a volunteer, then a lunchtime supervisor and in April 2010 she was employed as a Teaching Assistant. She has supported so many children over the years and has also taken on many additional roles and responsibilities including Minnows gatekeeper, support on residential trips, wraparound care, sleepovers, clubs and the weekly fire alarm checker. I am sure you will join me in wishing Dixie all the best as she moves onto a new job at Sunshine Nursery.
COMING UP………
Mr Collinson’s Maths Workshops for parents and carers.
This event will take place on Monday 18th November and there will be two sessions – morning and evening 8.45am and 6pm. The content will be the same for each session. Mr Collinson will be discussing the biggest changes to how maths is being taught in primary schools – through concepts. This is to help you understand how your child is learning and how you can best support their mathematical development. The content will be appropriate for parents and carers of children from Reception to Year 6.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
Mr Vallier
