Hello everyone.

It has been another busy week at Shoreham Beach Primary, but how lovely to see so many children involved in different activities, trips and events. Thank you to the staff for organising these enrichment opportunities for our pupils. Enjoy the many photographs everyone.

Our sports week had with a lovely blend of fun, competitiveness and a sportsmanship. We were so impressed with the attitudes of all the children during the three sports afternoons and so proud of what they have achieved! Thank you to all those parents and grandparents who supported and a huge “THANK YOU” to Mr Strudwick for organising such a fun set of sports afternoons. ARUNDEL WETLANDS

Earlier this week, Dolphins Class travelled to Arundel Wetland Centre to learn more about conservation and what a wetland is. Here are some photographs and comments from the children:

There were two female pelicans that had been with them for years and two males that the wetland are a lot less familiar with. I was astonished that they had four of this endangered species. As well as the pelicans in the same enclosure there were adorable, tiny ducklings. (Didi)

We ventured to a tank filled with ducks. They were swimming peacefully, but they were also diving as well. They had metal rings on their feet to tell the keepers what type of duck they were or if one was ill. Personally, my favourite duck was the spectacled duck because it looked stylish (and a bit silly).  (Reuben)

Our tour guide told us the legendary pike would gobble up chicks but when we were there we didn’t see any! (Bella)

We went pond dipping. Lydia and Izzy found a dead great diving beetle and Arthur and George found a nymph that will eventually be a dragonfly. Pond dipping is when you use a net to catch pond animals, then you use an identification book to check what it is. (Nimitan)

I had an outstanding day. I would definitely go again. (Effie)

AUTHOR VISIT TO KS1

Years 1, 2 and 3 were visited by local author Jim Beckett this week.  Jim entertained the children with a glimpse into his new book ‘Buzz Sausage Wolf’.  They also took part in a survey to see if they were more sausage or wolf, met Ollie the Orangutan and listened to Jim sing a song inspired by their story ideas! The children were given the opportunity to pre-order the book from Steyning bookshop and Jim then spent some time with each child, signing their personal copies in the Haven.  It was a brilliant opportunity for the children to meet an author and hear what inspired him to write stories

CASSIDY AND THE INTERNATIONAL GRAND FINAL

Cassidy (Year 6) recently travelled up to Warwick to take part in the International Grand Finals of Destination Dance competition.  The competition runs about 15 heats throughout the year & from those heats, those with high scores get to qualify for the finals. She performed two dances at the finals, a duet and a solo.

Her duet dance won its section and also won the Highest Scoring Junior duet of the whole competition!

For her solo, she got 2nd place and was awarded the 9th Highest scoring Junior solo of the whole competition, this was out of just over 130 solos, that competed in the finals! Well done, Cassidy.

EXPLORERS

The children in Explorers Club enjoyed building indoor dens this week.

THE POLICE

Starfish Class enjoyed their visit from the police yesterday. The children learned about safety and the role of the police.
