Weekend Blog – on this day in history.

Hello everyone,

I was listening to Talk Sport this morning and the presenters were talking about tonight’s Champions League Final. At one point they mentioned that on this day in 1968 Manchester United became the first English club to win the European Cup. This got me thinking about other events that have happened on this day in history. Here are a few that I found:

1917 – JFK was born

1942 – ‘White Christmas’ was recorded by Bing Crosby (imagine singing about snow and sleigh bells in May)!

1954 – British runner Diane Leather became the first woman to run a mile in under 5 minutes

1968 – Manchester United became the first English club to win the European Cup

1977www.beautifulbritain.co.uk– Nigel Short, an 11 year old English schoolboy , qualified as the youngest ever competitor in a national chess championship

1994 – An ice ball comet seen above the North Sea

Anyway, congratulations to Eli, Evie, Elyse and Jenny on achieving five mentions in the log book:

Congratulations to Hugo for receiving an Oscar.

Have a lovely half term break everyone. Stay safe and be kind.

See you all on Monday 7th June.

Mr Vallier
